Kendriya Vidyalaya Jakhoo Hills one of the premier academic institution in Shimla was Established on 1 April 1964 when Kendriya VidyalayaSangathan , an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India stamped its hallmark and took over the erstwhile Harcourt Butler School, an establishment meant for colonials to pursue their education.

Reflecting its academic excellence, It is situated on the pinnacle of Jakhoo Hills at a height of 7000 ft. and is 400mts away from the Mall, Shimla. An aura of peace and serenity is provided by the surrounding deodar trees whose sky touching branches evince the zenith of scholarly pursuits.

Gradual year wise expansion in classes and sections leading to present status

Type of building is B. Since construction of school building and staff quarters has been done in more than 4 phases.
The construction started in 1968 and completed in 1992.

Phase I : 1969 : 08 rooms constructed including Toilets
Phase II 1976-77 11 rooms were constructed
Phase III 1984 administrative block constructed.
Phase IV 1992 4 rooms were constructed.

Details of new campus
• The school caters to the educational needs of students from class I to XII with three sections in each class upto class X . Classes XI and XII are diversified into three streams namely Science, Commerce and Humanities.
a) Primary Education : There are Large rooms with scope for activity based teaching..
b) Secondary Education : Latest technology is being practised in class room teaching i.e. computer aided teaching , audio cassettes , LCD & OHP's in addition to traditional chalk & talk method .
• Presently the school has a strength of 1400 students and 60 dedicated and well qualified staff members.
